hands on a robotic handle for surgery

Robotic Surgery

Robotic surgery is a type of minimally invasive procedure where surgeons use advanced technology to perform operations with tiny incisions.

Once upon a time, robotic surgery was an idea only found in science fiction novels. Fast-forward to today, and it's a safe and effective way to treat everything from hernias to head and neck cancers — with U-M Health leading the way.

Robotic surgery has been a part of our offerings since 2001, when we were among the only health centers in the country using this ground-breaking technology. Over the years, our surgical specialists in colorectal surgery, gastroenterologygynecologyhead and neck surgery, pediatrics, and thoracic surgery have all incorporated robotics into their practices.

For most robotic-assisted surgeries, we only need to make a tiny incision, usually smaller than the size of a quarter. What does that mean for you?

  • Less pain
  • Less blood loss
  • Less scarring
  • Less risk of wound infection
  • Quicker recovery time
  • Shorter hospital stays

Whether you need a quick fix or are managing a complex condition that requires careful treatment, you can rely on the skilled hands of U-M Health surgeons and their robotic tools to get you on the road to recovery.
