Robotic Surgery
Robotic surgery is a type of minimally invasive procedure where surgeons use advanced technology to perform operations with tiny incisions.
Once upon a time, robotic surgery was an idea only found in science fiction novels. Fast-forward to today, and it's a safe and effective way to treat everything from hernias to head and neck cancers — with U-M Health leading the way.
Robotic surgery has been a part of our offerings since 2001, when we were among the only health centers in the country using this ground-breaking technology. Over the years, our surgical specialists in colorectal surgery, gastroenterology, gynecology, head and neck surgery, pediatrics, and thoracic surgery have all incorporated robotics into their practices.
For most robotic-assisted surgeries, we only need to make a tiny incision, usually smaller than the size of a quarter. What does that mean for you?
- Less pain
- Less blood loss
- Less scarring
- Less risk of wound infection
- Quicker recovery time
- Shorter hospital stays
Whether you need a quick fix or are managing a complex condition that requires careful treatment, you can rely on the skilled hands of U-M Health surgeons and their robotic tools to get you on the road to recovery.
