Acyclovir Buccal Tablet (ACYCLOVIR TABLET - BUCCAL)

Instructions

Do not chew or swallow it whole.

Peel back foil, carefully remove tablet using dry hands. Do not push the tablet through the foil.

Use the medicine as soon as you first notice symptoms of a cold sore, such as itching, burning or tingling. It is best to use before the cold sore appears.

The tablet needs to be inserted into the gum pocket area in front of the upper teeth. Place the round side of the tablet to the upper gum, above the tooth to the left or right of the center two teeth, on the same side of the mouth where the cold sore is starting. Leave the tablet in place, and gently press your finger on the outside of your upper lip for 30 seconds to help the tablet stick to your gum.

The tablet will dissolve slowly over several hours. You may eat and drink with the tablet in place, but do not brush your teeth, chew gum, or wear an upper denture until the tablet dissolves. You may gently rinse with water.

If the tablet comes off within 6 hours, reapply the same tablet right away. If it will not stay in place, apply a new tablet. If you accidentally swallow the tablet within 6 hours, drink a glass of water and apply a new tablet. If you swallow the tablet or it falls off after 6 hours, you do not need to reapply it or use a new one.

Store at room temperature away from heat, light, and moisture. Do not keep in the bathroom.

Tell your doctor and pharmacist about all your medicines. Include prescription and over-the-counter medicines, vitamins, and herbal medicines.
