Many insurance plans require referrals and/or authorizations in order for services to be covered. A referral is permission from your primary care physician and your health plan to see a particular provider or to have a specific procedure done. If your plan requires a referral, your primary care physician must provide the referral prior to services being rendered. If you arrive for services without a referral in place, you may be asked to sign a waiver that holds you financially responsible for the services you receive.
Authorizations are often required for radiology procedures such as MRI. If an authorization is required, the radiology referral coordinator team will obtain the authorization from your health plan prior to the service. Requests for Radiology Exams on CD
(CT, MRI, PET, X-ray, etc.)
The Customer Service Center is open Monday-Friday 6:30 a.m. - 11:00 p.m. and Saturday-Sunday 6:30 a.m. - 4:30 p.m. Please call Radiology at 734-936-4516 ahead of time to allow ample time for the images to be prepared, or to arrange pickup outside of these hours.
If you are bringing radiology studies from an outside institution, please ask your provider to put the studies on a CD-ROM in DICOM format. Studies can be taken to the University Hospital, Radiology File Room, room B1-D420.
To request an outside study be stored onto the Radiology PACS system, please fill out the Request to Store Outside Exams onto the Radiology PACS Form
