734-539-5006

Our Nutrition Counseling programs are designed for non-hospitalized patients and are staffed by registered dietitians who have expertise in adult, pediatric, prenatal and geriatric nutrition. We address a variety of nutrition-related conditions, including:

  • Diabetes
  • Blood lipids (cholesterol and triglycerides)
  • Hypertension
  • Kidney disease before dialysis
  • Polycystic ovarian syndrome
  • Hypoglycemia
  • Gluten intolerance (celiac disease)
  • Irritable bowel syndrome
  • Gastroesophageal reflux disease
  • Obesity

We also offer medical nutrition therapy by appointment only, with same-day openings available occasionally. Self-referrals are welcome for patients established with a care provider at the Brighton Center for Specialty Care.

What happens during the initial consultation? A typical appointment will include a complete nutritional and medical history, an assessment of nutritional status, and the provision of a realistic plan of action based on the readiness, level of understanding, motivation and needs of the client. This individualized plan will reflect information that is up to date, accurate and medically sound. Follow-up sessions are scheduled for 15-60 minutes. Follow-up sessions are used to reinforce nutrition goals, estimate current intake, create menu plans and provide additional nutrition information. Family members are welcome to attend the sessions.

What are the costs? What about insurance? A nutrition visit with a registered dietitian is a covered service for ~95% of patients. If you have questions about potential out-of-pocket costs, please inquire with our Care Connect Call Center at 734-539-5006.
