What is the most important information I should know about mobocertinib?
Call your doctor at once if you have fast or pounding heartbeats, fluttering in your chest, shortness of breath, and sudden dizziness (like you might pass out).
What is mobocertinib?
Mobocertinib is used in adults to treat non-small cell lung cancer that has spread to other parts of the body (metastatic) and cannot be removed with surgery, and whose disease has worsened while on or after chemotherapy with platinum.
Mobocertinib is used if your cancer has a specific genetic marker (an abnormal "EGFR" gene). Your doctor will test you for this gene.
Mobocertinib may also be used for purposes not listed in this medication guide.
What should I discuss with my healthcare provider before taking mobocertinib?
Tell your doctor if you have:
- heart problems, including long QT syndrome;
- an electrolyte imbalance (such as low blood levels of sodium, potassium, calcium, or magnesium); or
- lung or breathing problems other than lung cancer.
You may need to have a negative pregnancy test before starting this treatment.
Both men and women using this medicine should use effective birth control to prevent pregnancy. Mobocertinib can harm an unborn baby if the mother or father is using this medicine.
Keep using birth control for at least 1 month for women and at least 1 week for men after your last dose. Tell your doctor right away if a pregnancy occurs.
Mobocertinib can make birth control pills less effective. Ask your doctor about other birth control options such as an injection, implant, skin patch, vaginal ring, condom, diaphragm, cervical cap, or contraceptive sponge.
Do not breastfeed while using this medicine, and for at least 1 week after your last dose.
Mobocertinib may affect fertility in men or women. Pregnancy could be harder to achieve while either parent is using this medicine.
How should I take mobocertinib?
Follow all directions on your prescription label and read all medication guides or instruction sheets. Use the medicine exactly as directed.
You may take mobocertinib with or without food.
Swallow the capsule whole and do not crush, chew, break, or open it.
You should not stop using mobocertinib without your doctor's advice.
Your cancer treatments may be delayed or permanently discontinued if you have certain side effects.
Store at room temperature away from moisture and heat.
What happens if I miss a dose?
Use the medicine as soon as you can, but skip the missed dose if you are more than 6 hours late for the dose. Do not use two doses at one time.
If you vomit shortly after taking mobocertinib, do not take another dose. Take your next dose as scheduled.
What happens if I overdose?
Seek emergency medical attention or call the Poison Help line at 1-800-222-1222.
What should I avoid while taking mobocertinib?
Grapefruit may interact with mobocertinib and cause side effects. Avoid consuming grapefruit products.
What are the possible side effects of mobocertinib?
Get emergency medical help if you have signs of an allergic reaction: hives; difficult breathing; swelling of your face, lips, tongue, or throat.
Call your doctor at once if you have:
- new or worsening breathing problems or shortness of breath, cough, or fever;
- fast or pounding heartbeats, fluttering in your chest, swelling in your ankles or feet, chest pain, and sudden dizziness (like you might pass out); or
- diarrhea.
Common side effects may include:
- diarrhea, vomiting, nausea, decreased appetite;
- rash, dry skin, skin infection around nails;
- tiredness;
- mouth sores; or
- muscle or joint pain.

What other drugs will affect mobocertinib?
Sometimes it is not safe to use certain medicines at the same time. Some drugs can affect your blood levels of other drugs you use, which may increase side effects or make the medicines less effective.
Tell your doctor about all your other medicines, especially:
- heart medication.
