Kids Burn Camp Fundraising Event on Sept. 24

The Chili Cook-off and Family Fun Day to benefit Kids Burn Camp will be held from noon to 3 p.m. on Sunday, Sept. 24 at YMCA Camp Manitou-Lin in Middleville, Mich.

The event is open to the general public and will offer a taste of some exceptional chili recipes, as well as games and activities for kids and adults. Admission is free for children 17 and under, and $5 for adults.

This inaugural event will feature a chili cook-off competition, as well as horse-drawn wagon rides, a hot dog roast, face painting, pony rides, games and more. Area fire fighters will be among the volunteers and chili cook-off competitors.

Samples of each chili will be available to attendees for a minimal fee, and the three teams with the most samples purchased will receive trophies, with the first place winner also securing a cash prize.  The chili cook-off is open to the public, and entries are still being accepted.

This event not only is a chance for Kids Burn Camp campers and their families to take part in the fun of camp together, but it is an invitation to the community to experience the magic of camp and support this unique program.

Each summer, burn injured children attend Kids Burn Camp at no cost. The program is dependent on the contributions and support of the community, and volunteers. Kids Burn Camp is a collaboration between the U-M Trauma Burn Center, Bronson Hospital and Spectrum Health, as well as the YMCA Camp Manitou-Lin.

Sponsors for this event include Spartan, Pepsi and Frito Lay.
