Ann Arbor, Mich. - African Americans and Latinos are at greater risk when it comes to kidney disease. A seminar sponsored by the University of Michigan Women's Health Program in partnership with the U-M Minority Health Research Program will focus on kidney disease and the preventative measures that can be taken to reduce the risk of kidney-related diseases for women.
Gadegbeku will focus on the two most common causes of kidney diseases: diabetes and hypertension. She will discuss the prevalence of obesity in African American and Latina women and further elaborate on their link to kidney disease.
"We are excited about this ongoing community-based effort to provide valuable health information to a diverse audience of women in the community," says Angela Johnson, minority outreach coordinator for the Women's Health Program. "This focused health seminar series is part of a broader women's health seminar series that the WHP launched in 2006 to help satisfy the demand for credible health information in the community."
