Baskets A' Plenty auction raises awareness, funds for local programs

The University of Michigan Health System supports five local programs that enrich the lives of older adults. To help raise funds and awareness for these programs, the Turner Senior Resource Center is hosting the Baskets A' Plenty silent auction from 2 - 5 p.m., Sunday, Oct. 22.

Programs supported by the event include the Housing Bureau for Seniors - a community program that assists and empowers older adults to find affordable and appropriate housing; Learning in Retirement - a program that provides mind-stimulating lectures, mini-courses and cultural events for older adults; Motor Meals - a UMHS-supported program that delivers meals to homebound Ann Arbor residents; the Silver Club - a day program designed to provide social, mental and physical enrichment to older adults with Alzheimer's-related memory loss and other illnesses; and the Turner Senior Resource Center.

Attendees can bid on an assortment of themed baskets and gift items while enjoying appetizers, beverages and entertainment. All ages are welcome. A $2 donation is requested at the door. The event will take place in the TSRC, 2401 Plymouth Rd. For more information, call 734-998-9353.

Event sponsors include Pipex Therapeutics, the Ann Arbor News, Stark Funeral Home, EOTECH, Allegra Print and Imaging, Comerica Bank and Signs in 1 Day. More than 150 community businesses and organizations donated gifts and items for the theme baskets.
