About
Marc J. Moote, MS, PA-C is currently the Chief Physician Assistant for the University of Michigan Health System. He is dually credentialed within General Surgery and Internal Medicine, with a clinical appointment in the Multidisciplinary Liver Tumor Clinic. This appointment follows an administrative role as Lead Physician Assistant in U-M General Surgery, and past experience in William Beaumont Surgical Services and Providence Family Care/Infinity Primary Care. He is board certified by the National Commission of Certification of Physician Assistants.
In addition to these activities, Marc Moote, PA-C has been active in quality improvement and patient safety at the University of Michigan. He was a member of the UMHS Patient Safety Committee 2007-2012 among other safety related committees. Notably, he has chaired the UMHS VTE Prevention Committee since its inception in February 2009. As a result of the success of this institutional effort, the University of Michigan Health System was honored by the North American Thrombosis Forum (NATF) with the 2010 DVTeamCare Hospital Award for its commitment to preventing potentially fatal blood clots. This resulted in an invitation from the Centers for Disease Control (CDC) Division of Blood Disorders to participate in an Expert Panel Meeting on Prevention of Hospital-Acquired Venous Thromboembolism. Subsequently, Marc has served on the National Quality Forum, Patient Safety-Complications Endorsement Maintenance Steering Committee for review of patient safety measures.
Professional affiliations include The American Academy of Physician Assistants (AAPA) and The Michigan Academy of Physician Assistants (MAPA). Marc currently serves on MAPA’s legislative committee. In addition, past service includes the Advocacy & Government Affairs Commission (formerly Governance and Advocacy Commission) for the American Academy of Physician Assistants (AAPA) from 2011-2014.
His research interests include hospital-acquired conditions, particularly venous thromboembolism, and dissemination of patient safety practices. In addition, research interests include physician assistant utilization, productivity, quality and outcomes, in addition to healthcare workforce planning.
