Patients can now receive eye surgery and other ophthalmology care close to home at the University of Michigan Kellogg Eye Center’s new state-of-the-art clinic in Brighton.

Kellogg has opened its most comprehensive community eye clinic at Michigan Medicine’s Brighton Center for Specialty Care, which offers minimally invasive, complex eye procedures and the latest laser technology for vision correction.

The Brighton eye care team will include Kellogg physicians who specialize in cornea and refractive surgery, glaucoma, pediatrics, oculoplastics and retina and uveitis.

“In the last few years, to better serve patients needing advanced eye care, our clinical staff has grown and our services expanded,” says Paul P. Lee, M.D., chair of the U-M Department of Ophthalmology and Visual Sciences and director of the W.K. Kellogg Eye Center.

“Delivering care close to home is more important than ever as we look to provide eye care to the rapidly growing number of people with eye conditions,” he says.

The Brighton Center for Specialty Care makes U-M services more accessible to residents in Livingston County and surrounding communities, including world-class ophthalmology care.

Comprehensive eye care for adults and children at the center will include glasses and contact lenses, ophthalmic photography and testing and medical and surgical care provided in 30 exam rooms and a dedicated eye surgery suite.

Eye surgeries began Sept. 25 with a corneal transplant performed on a local resident. Previously patients had to travel to Kellogg Eye Center in Ann Arbor for surgical care.

Across the country ocular surgeries are shifting to ambulatory care centers where care can be delivered at a lower cost, more quickly and closer to home for patients.

At Brighton, physicians who are passionate about innovation will perform minimally invasive glaucoma surgery, vitreoretinal surgery including retinal detachment repair and macular surgery, and take advantage of laser technology for vision correction and to manage glaucoma and retinal disease.

The service also screens for diabetic retinopathy, glaucoma, macular degeneration and cataracts.

The easy-to-navigate eye clinic is located on the second floor of Brighton Specialty Care, 7500 Challis Road, and is the U-M Health System’s most comprehensive eye clinic outside of the main Ann Arbor campus.

Extraordinary care, convenient location

The Brighton Center for Specialty Care has 296,000 square feet of clinical and diagnostic space for the whole family.

This fall, eye care shifted from the Brighton Health Center to the new specialty building where considerably larger space brings together more than 50 specialties. Brighton Health remains open for primary care services.
