Virtual Care Video Visits - New Zoom Format

Virtual Care Video Visits allow you to save the time and cost of traveling to see your healthcare provider in person by giving you access to the same world-class Michigan Medicine care online, using your smartphone, tablet, laptop or desktop computer with a microphone and camera.

You must be physically located in the State of Michigan at the time of your scheduled Video Visit due to state law and regulations. If you cannot be in Michigan at the time of your appointment, you will be asked to reschedule.

What is a Video Visit?

A Video Visit is a scheduled appointment with your healthcare provider where you connect via the MyUofMHealth patient portal. You will be able to see, hear, and speak to your provider and they will be able to see, hear, and speak to you, similar to the experience you might get talking to friends or family with Apple FaceTime or Skype calls.

Your appointment will include plenty of time for your provider to understand your needs, evaluate your symptoms, and answer any questions you have.

How can I request a Video Visit?

To request a Video Visit, call the clinic you are interested in being seen by and ask about scheduling a Video Visit.  If the type of evaluation or care you need can be done through a Video Visit, we will help you schedule a Video Visit appointment.

What do I need to participate in a Video Visit?

  • A MyUofMHealth patient portal account.  If you do not have a MyUofMHealth account set up, please contact Health Information Technology at 734-615-0872 for assistance.
  • If using a mobile device, you will need the MyUofMHealth mobile app installed, available for free on the Apple Store or Google Play.
  • A strong internet or cellular data connection
  • Zoom® installed on your mobile device or desktop computer. See below for instructions on how to install Zoom.
  • OPTIONAL: A headset or earphones will make it easier to hear your provider and may improve audio quality.

A parent/full legal guardian may need proxy access to the patient’s MyUofMHealth account for some patients under 18, or adult patients with diminished mental capacity. Alternatively, in some pediatric departments, a patient 11-17 years of age will need an independent MyUofMHealth account in order to access a Video Visit. Questions about what type of account access is needed for your Video Visit can be directed to your participating clinic. In all cases, the patient must be physically present for the Video Visit.
