Michael W. Mulholland, MD, PhD is a Professor of Surgery and the Chairman of the Department of Surgery. Dr. Mulholland also serves as the Surgeon in Chief of the University of Michigan Hospital. Dr. Mulholland received his Bachelor degree from the Northwestern University in Evanston, Illinois and a medical degree from Northwestern University Medical School in Chicago. Postgraduate training in General Surgery was received at the University of Minnesota in Minneapolis. Dr. Mulholland also received a PhD from the University of Minnesota. Dr. Mulholland joined the faculty at the University of Michigan in 1988.
Dr. Mulholland's clinical interests are expressed in the area of gastrointestinal surgery. He has a special expertise the treatment of pancreatic and biliary cancer, neoplastic diseases of the gastrointestinal tract, biliary reconstruction, inflammatory bowel disease, and advanced laparoscopic surgery. He is a member of the Multidisciplinary Pancreatic Cancer Program of the University of Michigan Rogel Cancer Center.
