Courtney Townsel received her undergraduate degree at Howard University in Washington, DC. She returned to her home state of Florida for medical school at the University of South Florida. She completed her Obstetrics and Gynecology Residency at the George Washington University. After completing her Maternal-Fetal Medicine Fellowship at the University of Connecticut, Dr. Townsel joined the University of Michigan Maternal Fetal Medicine faculty. Her interests include health disparities, substance use disorders in pregnancy and translational research. She is also interested in device development to improve pregnancy outcomes and has been awarded tens of thousands in grant funding for novel device development. She looks forward to expanding her research focus and having the opportunity to teach trainees at all levels.
