Dr. Hayek completed his Internal Medicine and Cardiology training at Emory University in Atlanta GA, throughout which he received many accolades and awards for both excellence in patient care and his contributions to science. He has been awarded multiple board certifications; including Internal Medicine, Cardiovascular Disease, Echocardiography, Nuclear Imaging, Cardiac CT and Vascular Ultrasound. In addition he is a prolific researcher and while early in his career, he has authored over 85 peer-reviewed publications, many in the highest impact journals such as the New England Journal of Medicine, Nature Medicine, Circulation, Circulation Research, JACC, Nature Genetics and others. He is heavily involved in many professional societies; notably the Cardio-Oncology and Innovation Leadership councils of the American College of Cardiology.
He moved to Ann Arbor in 2018 to join the University of Michigan Frankel Cardiovascular Center where he is expanding the Cardio-Oncology clinic focusing on the cardiovascular health of cancer patients, extending from prevention to treatment of cardiac side effects of chemotherapy and radiation therapy. He continues to pursue state of the art research in risk prediction, leveraging the University of Michigan vast research infrastructure.
Dr. Hayek is passionate about teaching; specifically his patients, taking his time in explaining the intricacies of diseases and their management. His mantra is to ensure patients are involved in and fully understand recommendations and decisions regarding their care. During clinic visits he focuses on prevention; devising personalized strategies for each patient to maximize their quality of life and promote heart health.
