Radiation therapy (also referred to as radiation oncology) is a type of cancer treatment that involves the use of the use of high-energy radiation, primarily X-rays, to kill cancer cells and shrink tumors. Radiation is often used in conjunction with other cancer treatments such as surgery, chemotherapy or bone marrow transplant, depending on each child’s specific diagnosis.
