Dialysis and Vascular Access
If the kidneys fail, dialysis is one option to take on the work of the non-functioning kidneys. Two types of dialysis are hemodialysis, which accesses the bloodstream through a connection between an artery and a vein, and peritonealdialysis, which circulates a cleaning solution into the lining of the abdomen through a catheter to clean the blood.
