Physicians in the Division of Endocrine Surgery at University of Michigan believe in providing streamlined, safe, and efficient care. Because many of our patients travel from afar to see us (all 50 states and other countries), it is important to us to make your trip to Ann Arbor as productive as possible, eliminating unnecessary office visits, decreasing time from referral to operation, and curing your parathyroid disease as quickly as possible while providing you with the safest and highest level of care. In the past 10 years, our experienced endocrine surgeons have operated on over 3,000 parathyroid patients with a cure rate of 98.2%.

The University of Michigan Priority Program for Parathyroid Patients

Designed for those patients who may have trouble with transportation to Ann Arbor and want to minimize the number of visits, UMHS is proud to offer a priority option for some patients with parathyroid disease meeting certain criteria. This process allows a U-M endocrine surgeon to review your medical records in detail, speak with you by phone or by video conference in the comfort of your home, office, or medical facility, and provide an opinion about treatment options and recommended next steps for you to consider.

Each case is reviewed by an experienced endocrine surgeon who will contact you personally to discuss your case. If after discussion it is felt you meet criteria to proceed through the priority program, a date for a visit to our clinic and our pre-operative center will be scheduled, followed by surgery the day after to cure your parathyroid disease.

Some patients will be able to go home the same day after surgery, while others will want to stay in the area overnight and go home the next day. Some patients may need to stay in the hospital for one night and can return home the next day. Many hotels in the area are used to having our patients stay with them. Besides having a leading hospital nationally, Ann Arbor is a great place to visit. Go Blue!

At the University of Michigan's Endocrine Surgery Parathyroid Center, we offer a combination of high level clinical expertise and leading research that results in the best possible care for the patients we serve. With our advanced surgical techniques based on the very latest research, including minimally invasive approaches, ultrasound localization, intraoperative parathyroid hormone monitoring, and recurrent laryngeal nerve monitoring when applicable, we are ready to treat your parathyroid disease and help you live your life to the fullest.
