ANN ARBOR, Mich. — Buying a must-have pair of suede pumps or cute wedge sandals could end up benefiting cancer research at the University of Michigan Comprehensive Cancer Center.
Offering more than 125,000 pairs of shoes at half the manufacturer’s suggested retail price, QVC and the Fashion Footwear Association of New York (FFANY) are joining together for the 19th annual QVC Presents “FFANY Shoes on Sale®,” scheduled for Wednesday, Oct. 24. The event is held each October in honor of Breast Cancer Awareness Month, with net proceeds from the sales benefiting cancer research programs and education institutions across the country, including U-M’s Breast Oncology Program.
U-M received $542,714 from last year’s sale, and $4.2 million total since becoming involved with the event.
"FFANY and QVC have been instrumental in supporting several avenues of breast cancer stem cell research that would not have been pursued otherwise,” says Daniel F. Hayes, M.D., co-director of the Breast Oncology Program at U-M. “They are dedicated to ensuring that we make a difference against this disease, and through their support we will.”
Overall, QVC and FFANY have donated more than $38 million for breast cancer research and education, selling more than 1 million pairs of shoes.
