Michigan Medicine names new chief communication and marketing officer

ANN ARBOR – A strategic marketing and communication expert with extensive experience in health care will assume leadership for Michigan Medicine’s communications and marketing functions, effective Sept. 8. 

Christine Woolsey is joining Michigan Medicine, the academic medical center of the University of Michigan, to support institutional strategic goals and priorities for clinical and research efforts, the U-M Medical School and the regional health network. 

 Most recently, Woolsey served as the senior vice president and chief marketing and communications officer for Hospital Sisters Health System (HSHS) in Springfield, Illinois, a network of 13 hospitals and 130 care facilities in Illinois and Wisconsin.

Woolsey spent more than a decade leading system marketing, communications and digital experience for Colorado-based SCL Health (now Intermountain Health). She was instrumental in building the system’s first shared service marketing and communications function and led the development of a unified branding and marketing strategy for 14 hospitals in four Western states. Woolsey also managed crisis communications, state advocacy and transformed the system’s online presence to increase consumer engagement and improve digital experience. 

A native of Galesburg, Illinois, Woolsey earned a bachelor of science in Journalism from the University of Illinois in Urbana-Champaign and spent the first half of her career as a business journalist in Chicago.
