Supporting and Connecting Patients

Michigan Medicine’s section of Oral & Maxillofacial Surgery has a team of highly trained surgeons, dentists, and staff dedicated to providing the best possible care for patients. Backed by the full resources of a large hospital system, we’re able to provide treatment for medically complex cases, including oral care for patients with oral/head and neck cancers, chronic jaw and facial pain, and congenital anomalies. We have 8,000 outpatient visits a year and more than 1,200 operative cases. This volume of cases gives us the resources and experience to provide the best possible care for a wide range of conditions.

Our team is constantly working to advance patient care. We utilize computer-assisted technologies to achieve precise results and better outcomes, and we were one of the first to have 3D printed surgical guides for reconstructive surgery. Minimally invasive techniques are used wherever possible to reduce the time it takes to heal after surgery. This emphasis on providing innovative, high-quality care for our patients continues to drive our research in areas from tissue engineering to cell-based therapeutics to oncology and reconstruction. Multidisciplinary Approach to Patient Care

We believe that a team approach to care produces the best outcomes. That’s why we partner oral-maxillofacial surgeons with hospital-trained dentists to evaluate and coordinate your care. Our team collaborates with radiology, rheumatology, neurology, oncology, cardiology, and otolaryngology specialists to provide care tailored to each patient. This means that our patients receive input from specialists in different areas, providing them with a comprehensive outlook on their treatment plan. We reduce the burden of multiple clinic visits for patients through our multidisciplinary care.
